£3 Million Transformation of Montague Place in Worthing to Begin This Spring

A £3 million project to revitalise Montague Place in Worthing is scheduled to begin this spring, introducing new green spaces, performance areas, and enhanced seating. The development, named Montague Gardens, aims to better connect the town centre with the seafront and foster a vibrant community atmosphere.

The regeneration will feature a prominent Worthing sign at the north end, a living green wall, and a performance deck. Plans include replacing existing tarmac with paving, planting 30 new trees, and installing drought-resistant greenery alongside sociable seating areas. Dedicated spaces will be allocated for outdoor café seating, and a hospitality kiosk will serve refreshments such as coffee and ice cream.

A new children’s play area will celebrate Worthing’s seaside heritage and highlight local kelp restoration efforts, complete with educational information boards and tactile play equipment. The £3.1 million project will be funded by £2.7 million from the Community Infrastructure Levy Strategic Fund and £400,000 from pooled business rates, in partnership with West Sussex County Council. Montague Gardens will become the third public realm regeneration initiative under the Worthing Growth Deal.
