80th Anniversary of D-Day - local Ceremonies and Events
Thursday, June 6, marks the 80th anniversary of the largest seaborne invasion in history, the D-Day landings on the Normandy beaches.
To honour this significant milestone, remembrance ceremonies and events are taking place across West Sussex.
Worthing Town Hall will participate in a borough-wide bell ringing on June 6. At 6.30pm, bells will ring out from several local churches including St Andrew’s in Tarring, St Botolph’s in Heene, St Mary’s in Broadwater, St Mary’s in Goring, and All Saints Findon Valley.
Additionally, a beacon will be lit at Littlehampton seafront at 9.15pm by the mayor, with the Littlehampton Sea Cadets performing outside the seafront kiosks.
Similarly, Shoreham Fort will also light a beacon at 9.15pm, and the Friends of Shoreham Fort have organised a museum exhibition at the Marlipins Museum to highlight Shoreham’s contributions to D-Day.
