Adur and Worthing Council Issues Warning to Windsurfers
Adur District and Worthing Borough Councils have issued a warning to windsurfers to avoid designated swimming areas in a bid to protect swimmers.
The councils have received reports of windsurfers entering areas marked for swimming, which are clearly identified by yellow buoys labelled “swim area.” These designated swim zones are located at Lancing Beach Green, Shoreham Beach, and Southwick Beach.
A spokesperson for the councils stated, “While it’s great to see so many people enjoying the water, we need to remind anyone participating in kite sports, as well as angling, that they cannot go into our seasonal swim areas. They are clearly denoted by yellow buoys with ‘swim area’ stencilled on them and are in place to help protect swimmers. Please don’t invade their safe space.”
Any breaches of this rule should be reported to the coastal office team on 01903 238977.
