Adur & Worthing Councils Launch New Team to Tackle Persistent Debt
Adur & Worthing Councils have announced the formation of a new dedicated income team aimed at improving the collection of money owed to the councils, including overdue council tax, business rates, and rent.
The new income team is a component of the councils’ organisational redesign programme, designed to address financial challenges posed by rising service demands, insufficient central government funding, and the urgent need for climate change action. By ensuring that those who can afford to pay their debts do so, the councils aim to allocate more resources to support residents struggling with the cost of living and to maintain essential services.
In collaboration with the Proactive team, which provides targeted support to individuals facing financial difficulties, the new income team will utilise advanced database technology from Policy In Practice to identify and assist residents in need. This approach has already facilitated support for utility bills, food costs, benefits claims, and clearing rent arrears, highlighting the councils’ commitment to serving the community effectively and sustainably.
