Arson Investigation Launched After Worthing Residents Evacuated

Residents in Worthing were evacuated from a block of flats following a fire that police believe was started deliberately.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene at Clifton Road, Worthing, at 8:50 pm on Thursday, January 9. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which was confined to the ground floor hallway, and ensured residents safely evacuated the building. No injuries were reported.

Sussex Police have launched an arson investigation and are appealing for witnesses. Detective Sergeant Harry Mansbridge from Worthing CID confirmed the fire is believed to be linked to previous incidents at the address. Authorities are liaising with local agencies and residents to keep them informed.

Police are urging anyone with relevant information, including CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage, to come forward. Reports can be made online, quoting serial 1213 of 09/01. The investigation remains ongoing.
