Bacteria Discovery Delays Worthing Integrated Care Centre Opening

The opening of Worthing’s new Integrated Care Centre (WICC) has been delayed after bacteria, reportedly legionella, was discovered in the building’s heating system.
Worthing Borough Council has stated that efforts are underway to resolve the issue within the next two weeks to allow healthcare services to move into the facility.
The £41 million health centre, located on Stoke Abbott Road, has faced multiple delays and rising costs since construction began on the former car park site. Once fully operational, the facility will house GP, mental health, community, and dentistry services, along with a pharmacy and support for families and young children. Some services, such as Payden’s Pharmacy, have already opened, while others were scheduled to relocate in early 2024.
A council spokesperson confirmed they are working with the managing agent and construction partners to address the problem swiftly.
