Concerns Raised Over Algae Bloom in Worthing’s Brooklands Park Lake
Visitors have expressed concerns over an algae bloom in the lake at Brooklands Park, Worthing.
Worthing Borough Council has assured the public that the situation is under control and that the fish and wildlife are not at risk.
The council stated that the algae bloom, observed at the lake in Western Road, is a natural occurrence during warm weather. A spokesperson for the council highlighted that much of the algae has naturally cleared, and continuous monitoring is in place to ensure the health of the lake’s ecosystem. The lake’s aeration windmills are aiding in maintaining sufficient oxygen and sunlight levels.
Visitors to the park are advised against throwing food into the lake, particularly during an algae bloom. The council will keep a close watch on the lake throughout the summer to ensure the wellbeing of the wildlife and the effective natural removal of any future algae blooms.
