Council Warns of Increased Abuse Towards Workers
West Sussex County Council has reported a rise in verbal and physical abuse directed at its staff and contractors. The council has pledged to take firm action against those responsible.
According to the council, workers repairing roads and other infrastructure have been subjected to abuse, causing some to leave work early and delaying projects. This increase in abuse has prompted the authority to issue a warning, stating that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
Councillor Joy Dennis, the cabinet member for highways and transport, expressed her dismay at the situation, emphasizing that while most residents are patient, a small minority have resorted to abusive actions. The council has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its workers and ensuring that any threats are addressed swiftly.
