Couple Lose All Possessions in Suspected Arson Attack at Worthing Flat

A fire at a flat in Victoria Court, Worthing, has left a couple homeless, with police treating the incident as part of an ongoing arson investigation.

The blaze, which occurred around 11:15pm on Thursday, completely gutted the flat. A 32-year-old local woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson and remains in custody, while a 41-year-old man previously arrested in connection with earlier fires at the same location is currently on bail.

The couple affected by the fire have reportedly “lost everything,” according to Madeline Lee, the mother of the woman who lived in the flat. An online fundraiser has been launched to support them, with donations sought for essentials such as clothes, food, and a wheelchair for the woman’s partner, who has limited mobility.

Sussex Police confirmed that multiple fires have been reported at Victoria Court over recent months, including one on Christmas Day, and all are being treated as linked incidents. Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward by contacting Sussex Police online, quoting serial 1392 of 05/02, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
