Crawley Man Found Guilty of Murdering Worthing Pensioner
A Crawley man has been found guilty of murdering a Worthing pensioner in a violent attack at the victim’s home. Sukhkit Bains, 46, was convicted by a jury at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday, October 29.
The court heard that Bains stabbed his acquaintance, Michael Martin, 72, in a sustained attack at Mr. Martin’s residence on St Botolph’s Road in Worthing last March. After the assault, Bains attempted to hide evidence by wiping the knife, cleaning a blood-stained rug, and washing his blood-stained clothing. Sussex Police arrested Bains at a separate address in Crawley, and he was charged with murder.
Following the verdict, Mr. Martin’s family expressed their sorrow, remembering him as a “loving and dedicated dad and grandad.” The family described him as a friendly person who “would do anything to help anyone.”
Bains is due to be sentenced on November 1.
