Decision on Rampion Wind Farm Expansion Delayed Until April

A decision on the proposed expansion of the Rampion offshore wind farm has been delayed until April. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero extended the deadline to 4 April, requesting additional details from the applicant concerning piling restrictions. The verdict was initially expected by Thursday.

The Rampion 2 project, led by Rampion Extension Development Limited, aims to add up to 90 turbines to the existing 116-turbine site off the coast of Worthing. If approved, construction would commence in 2027 and is expected to be completed by 2030. The expanded wind farm could generate enough electricity to power over one million homes, according to the operator, RWE Renewables.

Despite the project’s potential to boost renewable energy, concerns have been raised about its impact on local tourism. The expansion could be located between 13km and 26km from the coastline.
