Dog Rescued and Man Saved After House Fire in Tarring

A dog has been reunited with its owner and a man rescued after a fire broke out at a property in Castle Road, Tarring, on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 9.04am, where five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were deployed to tackle the blaze affecting the first floor and roof space of the building. One person was treated by the South East Coast Ambulance Service, and nearby residents were advised to keep doors and windows shut due to the smoke.

During the incident, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service retrieved a dog from a neighbouring property as a precaution, later reuniting it with its owner. The fire service praised the bravery of two local men, Tom Jimpson and Graham Head, who forced their way into the burning property to assist in the rescue of the man inside.

The fire has since been brought under control and all individuals have been accounted for. Authorities have reiterated the importance of working smoke alarms, stating they are crucial for early fire detection and safe evacuation. Castle Road remains closed while crews continue to assess the damage and ensure safety.
