Emergency Response Delayed by Poor Parking in Lancing

Fire crews responding to a fire in Lancing were delayed due to ‘carelessly parked’ vehicles, prompting West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to issue a warning to motorists.

The incident, which took place on Chester Avenue on March 3, saw emergency teams struggle to access the fire due to obstructive parking. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

A fire service spokesperson highlighted the risks posed by inconsiderate parking, warning that it can have severe consequences in emergency situations. The issue is not isolated, with firefighters also reporting vehicles blocking fire station bay doors, particularly at Partridge Green Fire Station. “Every second counts in an emergency, and obstructive parking can significantly impact response times,” the spokesperson said.

To prevent future incidents, the fire service has urged drivers to follow parking guidelines, including parking close to the curb, keeping wheels straight, folding in wing mirrors, and ensuring enough space for emergency vehicles to pass. Residents are reminded that their parking choices could be the difference between life and death in a crisis.
