Eviction Notices Served as Caravans Park at Highdown Recreation Ground in Worthing

Nine caravans have been served eviction notices after being parked at Highdown recreation ground in Worthing, following an earlier encampment at nearby Goring Gap.

The group initially arrived at Goring Gap last weekend, where wooden posts were reportedly removed to gain access to the site. West Sussex County Council issued eviction notices and warned that legal action would follow if the group failed to leave the land.

By Monday evening, the group had moved to Highdown recreation ground, with images showing caravans positioned next to a football pitch. Council officers confirmed that nine caravans are now located at the new site and have again been served notices requiring them to vacate the area.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex County Council said that court proceedings would be initiated should the group not comply. Sussex Police confirmed they are aware of the situation and are supporting the council as the lead agency in monitoring the site.
