Flood Protection Works Begin in Tarring to Tackle Surface Water Issues

A programme of drainage improvement works is underway in Tarring as part of West Sussex County Council’s Operation Watershed, aimed at reducing surface water flooding in residential areas.
The initiative, delivered in partnership with the Tarring Flood Action Group, is targeting eight key locations where water commonly pools during periods of heavy rainfall. A grant of £76,616 has been awarded to carry out the necessary upgrades, including the replacement and extension of gullies to enhance drainage capacity.
Work commenced on Monday, 31 March and is scheduled to run on weekdays until Friday, 2 May. Local contractor Landbuild will carry out the works from 7:30am to 5:30pm each day, with residents advised to move vehicles from affected areas to allow access. The phased schedule includes South Street junctions with Parkfield Road, Guildford Road and Ethelwulf Road, as well as sites around Becket Road, Lanfranc Road, Pavilion Road, and Church Road.
