Former Worthing Debenhams Site Undergoing Transformation into Flats

Work is underway to transform the former Debenhams store in Worthing into residential flats, with developers aiming to create 80 one and two-bedroom apartments.
The project, approved by Adur and Worthing Councils in September 2023, includes additional features such as a sky lounge, home-working space, and a dedicated bike store. Scaffolding and hoardings have been placed around the building as construction progresses.
Debenhams closed all its stores in 2019 after entering administration, and the Worthing site was purchased by Craig Developments in 2021. The project forms part of a broader effort to revitalise the town centre by repurposing large retail spaces into mixed-use developments. Plans initially faced a delay in June 2023 due to concerns over fire safety, but these were later resolved before receiving approval.
