Government Scraps A27 Arundel Bypass in Spending Cuts
The Government has cancelled the A27 Arundel bypass project as part of a series of spending cuts.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced on Monday that the A27 Arundel bypass project, known as the ‘Grey route’, has been scrapped. The project, which covered a five-mile stretch, was aimed at reducing journey times by 11 minutes and alleviating one of the South’s major traffic bottlenecks.
The decision has been met with approval by some local communities. A spokesperson for Walberton Parish Council welcomed the announcement, highlighting the adverse impacts the proposed route would have had on the villages of Walberton, Binsted, and Fontwell.
While acknowledging the need to address traffic issues at Crossbush, the Parish Council hopes the Government will now explore more cost-effective, sensible, and sustainable solutions for the A27 problem.
