Gym Approved Beneath Shoreham Flats Despite Resident Objections
A new 24-hour gym has been given the go-ahead to open in Shoreham, despite concerns from local residents over potential noise and parking problems.
Adur District Council approved the plans to convert part of the ground floor retail unit at Mariner Point into an Anytime Fitness gym. The decision faced significant opposition, with 74 objections from residents living in the building on Brighton Road. The Mariner Point Residents’ Association expressed concerns over noise pollution and light disturbances caused by the gym’s 24-hour operation, citing the impact on the quality of life for those living above the proposed site.
In response to these objections, council officials noted that noise mitigation measures outlined in an acoustic report would need to be implemented. The council’s environmental health officer did not oppose the project, and highways authorities found no significant safety or traffic concerns. Despite this, residents remain worried about parking availability, with 15 spaces allocated for gym users, and the impact on an already congested area.
