Historic Mayflower Steam Train to Journey Through West Sussex
The historic 61306 Mayflower steam train is scheduled to make a picturesque journey through West Sussex this Saturday.
Originating from Horsham, the train will provide passengers with an opportunity to experience travel as it was in the mid-20th century, with stops at Pulborough, Arundel, and Chichester en route to Bristol and Bath.
Constructed in 1948 by the North British Locomotive Company, the Mayflower was withdrawn from regular service in 1967. Since then, it has become a celebrated piece of railway heritage, frequently used for special day trips that allow enthusiasts and the public alike to relive the golden era of steam rail travel.
Juliet Stoley of the Steam Dreams Rail Company who are operating the service, expressed excitement about the event, noting that it marks a significant return of the Mayflower’s journeys from Horsham after several years.
