Hundreds of Worthing and Adur Households Receive £150 Energy Support Grants

More than 400 households across Worthing and Adur have received £150 cash grants to help cover energy bills, as part of a targeted support initiative by the local councils.

The initiative, led by the councils’ Proactive team, identified over 600 households in receipt of Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support and living in homes with low energy efficiency ratings. Each was offered the opportunity to apply for the grant, which has now been paid directly into bank accounts. The funding is sourced from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The programme uses data analysis tools developed by social policy software company Policy In Practice to proactively identify and reach vulnerable residents. This is the second such effort by the team, following a 2024 scheme that awarded £200 supermarket vouchers to households who narrowly missed out on Winter Fuel Payments.

Councillors from both Adur and Worthing praised the initiative. Cllr Sharon Sluman highlighted the challenges residents face with the increasing energy price cap, while Cllr Dom Ford reiterated the council’s commitment to signposting further support for improving home energy efficiency and managing household costs.
