Lancing Parish Council to Convert Office into One-Bed Flat

Lancing Parish Council has received approval to convert a section of its offices into a one-bedroom flat, citing the space’s unsuitability for office use.

The decision was made by Adur and Worthing Councils on February 12, allowing the transformation of a currently vacant section of the Lancing Parish Hall at 96-98 South Street. The parish council stated that the lack of essential facilities such as toilets and running water made the space impractical for office purposes.

The proposed conversion will create a one-bedroom flat spanning approximately 56 square metres over two floors. The first floor will include a living room/diner and kitchen, while the second floor will house the bedroom and bathroom. Despite the floor area falling slightly below the national standard of 58 square metres for a one-bedroom two-storey dwelling, the council deemed the layout reasonable and approved the plan.

Two objections were raised by residents, citing concerns over potential impacts on their quality of life and the surrounding area. However, planning officials concluded that the conversion to residential use was acceptable in principle. A single parking space will be allocated for the flat in the car park at the rear of the property.
