Long Furlong Road Reopens After Fatal Collision and Resurfacing Works

A busy Long Furlong road has reopened three days after a fatal collision, following extensive resurfacing work due to fire damage. The A280 at Long Furlong was shut down after a lorry and a car were involved in a serious crash on Monday morning (9 September), which tragically resulted in the death of the car’s driver.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 6am on Monday. Sussex Police confirmed that the collision, which occurred near the roundabout with the A27, involved a Kia Sportage and a lorry. While the driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene, the lorry driver, a man in his 50s, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Worthing Hospital.

West Sussex Highways carried out resurfacing work following the fire caused by the crash. The road was closed for several days but was fully reopened by Thursday morning, allowing traffic to resume. Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage as they continue their investigation into the incident.
