Major Emergency Response to Large Fire in Worthing
A large fire in Worthing triggered a major emergency response earlier today, with multiple fire engines, police cars, and ambulances attending the scene near Chapel Road. Roads were closed and the public was advised to avoid the area, but the situation is now under control.
The fire, reported at 1:15pm, saw six fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, and other emergency units dispatched to the site on Broadwater Bridge near Morrisons. West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that multiple 999 calls were received regarding the fire, which was located in a block of flats on Chapel Road. Nearby residents were urged to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke in the area.
Shortly after 3:30pm a spokeswoman for the fire service confirmed that crews are standing down. Firefighters used breathing apparatus and jets to extinguish the blaze, which is believed to have been accidental. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
Sussex Police added that roads in the area, which were temporarily closed, have now reopened.
