Man Arrested After Baton Rounds Fired by Police in Shoreham
A 36-year-old man has been arrested after police fired baton rounds following reports of him acting erratically with a knife in Shoreham.
Sussex Police responded to an incident on Kingsland Close, Shoreham, on Friday night at around 23:25 BST. Officers initially used a taser and a distraction device before deploying attenuating energy projectiles, commonly known as baton rounds. The man was subsequently taken to hospital and later arrested on suspicion of possessing a weapon in a public place.
A knife was recovered at the scene, and no injuries were reported aside from the man involved. Sussex Police confirmed that there would be an increased police presence in the area as their investigation continues. The use of baton rounds is considered a “less lethal” alternative to bullets, according to the College of Policing.
