MP Tim Loughton to Step Down at Next General Election
Veteran Conservative MP Tim Loughton has declared he will not seek re-election in the upcoming general election. Representing East Worthing and Shoreham since 1997, Loughton announced his departure during a statement to his local party association on Wednesday.
Throughout his parliamentary career, which has spanned over two decades, Loughton has been an influential political figure in Sussex, the region where he was born and has spent the majority of his life.
In his farewell letter, he expressed deep gratitude towards the local party and constituents for their support over the years. He recalled his work, particularly his involvement with the Ropetackle Arts Centre and his long tenure as the minister for Children, which he described as a source of great pride.
The announcement comes amid predictions by YouGov that the Labour Party will take control of the East Worthing and Shoreham seat at the next general election with 45 per cent of votes compared to 28 per cent for the Tories
