New Charity History Walk Launched in Worthing
Worthing Town Crier, Bob Smytherman, has inaugurated a new history walk. The walk, which launched on Tuesday, aims to raise awareness and funds for the mayor’s chosen charities, including the Broadwater Support Group, Community Hub, CYCALL inclusive cycling, and Parkinson’s UK Worthing and Washington Group.
Leveraging the wealth of knowledge curated by The Worthing Society, Smytherman led approximately 20 participants through Worthing’s town centre and seafront.
The three-hour journey covered notable landmarks and shared the stories behind the town’s blue plaques, commemorating figures like musician Keith Emerson and the town’s first female mayor, Ellen Chapman.
The walk started at the Assembly Hall and concluded at the Dome Cinema, and encompassed sites of historical and cultural significance such as Worthing Museum, the site where Harold Pinter lived, and the home of Worthing’s longest-serving town crier, among others.
This charitable initiative not only aims to educate locals and visitors about Worthing’s historical significance but also to support vital community services and groups. For information on future walks you can visit www.worthingtowncrier.co.uk
