Old Hill Barn pavilion in Worthing to be demolished for new youth clubhouse

Worthing Borough Council has confirmed that the existing pavilion at Hill Barn Recreation Ground will be demolished to make way for a new community clubhouse, to be used by Worthing United Youth FC and local residents.
Demolition work is due to begin next week, with contractors arriving on site to remove the current white pavilion situated in the northern part of the park. The new clubhouse, made from upcycled containers, will serve the boys’ and girls’ teams that regularly use the recreation ground and provide additional space for community activities.
The plans were approved by Worthing’s planning committee in September 2024, following strong support from local residents, with over 150 letters backing the proposal. The committee concluded that the existing facility was no longer suitable and that the new structure would provide significant benefits for the community.
Temporary fencing will be erected during the works, with portable toilets commissioned to support ongoing activities. A new accessible path from Hill Barn Lane to the clubhouse will also be constructed. The council said it is working closely with Worthing United Youth to deliver the project, which aims to benefit hundreds of young people who use the park weekly.
