Olympic Legend Sally Gunnell to Lead Mental Elf 5K in Worthing

Olympic legend Sally Gunnell is set to lead the warm-up for West Sussex Mind’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the Mental Elf 5K, scheduled for Sunday, November 24, on Worthing prom.

This annual event, organised by Worthing-based charity West Sussex Mind, encourages runners and walkers to don festive attire and raise funds for mental health services in the area. Following the Worthing parkrun route, the event will begin at Splashpoint Leisure Centre, where Gunnell will energise participants in a free warm-up session before the first wave sets off.

Mental Elf 2023 saw over 200 participants raise more than £9,200, supporting local mental health services. This year, West Sussex Mind hopes to exceed last year’s success with over 250 runners and walkers joining in. The event will feature live music, medals, and prizes for top finishers, and will include refreshments, entertainment, and a Santa sleigh hosted by Lancing and Sompting Lions.
