Petition Challenges Angmering School's Mobile Phone Policy
A petition opposing The Angmering School’s policy of confiscating mobile phones from late pupils has gained over 100 signatures, sparking debate among parents and the wider community.
The petition, started by Amy Simmons, challenges the rule that late-arriving students have their phones confiscated for the entire school day and face a 45-minute detention. Simmons described the policy as “ludicrous,” arguing that occasional lateness is often caused by factors outside students’ control, such as traffic or train delays. She called for the policy to target persistent lateness rather than isolated incidents.
The petition has drawn mixed reactions. Supporters of the campaign called the rule “unfair” and “disproportionate,” citing the challenges of navigating local traffic. However, others defended the school, expressing frustration over the disruptions caused by latecomers. Simmons later clarified that the school has indicated the policy will be applied “on a case by case basis.”
Angmering School has yet to comment on the petition.
