Petition Launched to Block Plans for 475 Homes on Worthing Green Land
A petition opposing the construction of 475 homes on Chatsmore Farm in Worthing has gained over 700 signatures. The development, proposed by Persimmon Homes, has faced ongoing legal challenges and local resistance.
Persimmon Homes first submitted plans for the development in 2021, but they were rejected by Worthing Borough Council. After an appeal was upheld by the planning inspectorate, the council successfully challenged the decision in the High Court in June 2023. A new inquiry, which began in September 2024, is now under way to reassess the plans.
Local resident Ella Heryet started the petition, citing concerns about increased congestion, damage to biodiversity, and a loss of green space. The public inquiry will continue virtually, with closing statements expected later this week.
