Police Investigate Fifth Fire at Worthing Block of Flats

Police are investigating another fire at Victoria Court flats in Worthing, marking the fifth incident at the property since late December. Residents were evacuated after the overnight blaze, which caused significant damage to the building.

The fire broke out at the Clifton Road property overnight on February 6, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Photos from the scene show a severely fire-damaged window and a police presence outside the building. Forensic officers have been gathering evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. This latest incident adds to residents’ growing concerns, with one woman reporting that her elderly mother, whose flat was previously targeted, is living in fear despite added security measures.

Detective Sergeant Harry Mansbridge from Worthing CID confirmed that the fires are being treated as linked and reassured residents that authorities are working hard to identify those responsible. “We understand the concerns of residents and have been working hard to identify the person or persons responsible,” he said. Police are urging anyone with information, including CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage of suspicious activity in the area, to come forward.

As investigations continue, residents remain anxious about their safety in the flats. The daughter of one resident called for urgent action, stating, “It’s terrible. Something needs to be done.” Police are maintaining a visible presence at the site as inquiries progress.
