Level Crossing Closure to Disrupt Travel between Worthing and Brighton

Travel disruptions are expected in Portslade as the level crossing on Boundary Road will be closed for maintenance work, with diversions and replacement buses affecting the area all weekend.

The closure, scheduled from 1am on Saturday, November 30, until 2am on Monday, December 2, is part of Network Rail’s essential maintenance to replace worn-out track in the Portslade area. The work will impact motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists, with diversions in place and buses replacing trains between Brighton and Littlehampton during the closure.

Motorists are advised to use the A270 Old Shoreham Road as a diversion, while the old underpass will remain open for pedestrians. A shuttle bus service will be available for those with mobility challenges, operating between Portslade station and the car park north of the crossing.

Southern Railway has announced that rail replacement buses will run throughout the weekend. Regular train services between Brighton and Littlehampton will be suspended, though routes from Littlehampton to Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central will continue as scheduled. Passengers and road users are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance.
