Preparations Begin for High Street Car Park Energy Centre
Preparations are underway for a new energy centre in Worthing, designed to bring low-carbon heating to the town and reduce emissions significantly.
The Worthing Heat Network, led by Hemiko in partnership with Worthing Borough Council, is progressing towards the creation of a state-of-the-art energy centre near the High Street multi-storey car park. The facility will feature a low-carbon heat pump currently in production and is set to provide sustainable heating to public buildings by autumn 2025.
The council estimates that the first phase of the network, expected to be completed by 2026, will reduce the town’s carbon emissions by 3,000 tonnes annually. The project forms part of Worthing Borough Council’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and a net zero area by 2045.
Hemiko, previously known as Pinnacle Power, will oversee the design, construction, and operation of the heat network. To support local residents during construction, the council has introduced free parking and bus travel days in the lead-up to Christmas. For more details on the project, visit Hemiko’s website.
