Public Consultation Opens on Sussex Mayoral Devolution Plans

Residents and businesses in Worthing are invited to participate in a public consultation on plans to establish a mayoral combined authority for the region. The consultation, launched by the government, will run until April 13.

The proposal aims to create a Mayoral Combined County Authority (MCCA) covering East Sussex, West Sussex, and Brighton. It seeks feedback from local communities, businesses, and organisations on governance, decision-making, and the potential impact of uniting these areas under a single elected mayor. The move is part of a broader devolution effort to transfer powers and funding from central government to local authorities.

The devolution initiative is part of the government’s wider Devolution Priority Programme, which includes Sussex among six regions fast-tracked for mayoral governance, with elections expected in May 2026. Public engagement events will be held during the consultation period, with details to be announced.
