Repair Works Underway at Worthing Pier as Contractors Return

Contractors have returned to Worthing Pier to carry out structural repairs as part of an ongoing maintenance programme. The work, which includes tightening bolts and replacing key components, is scheduled around the timing of spring low tides.

Worthing Borough Council initially closed the eastern entrance of the pier on February 20 to facilitate scaffolding installation for improvement works. In an update, the council confirmed that minor repairs to the pier’s substructure are now being conducted by engineers, following inspections carried out in late 2024. These works, while not urgent, are part of the routine upkeep required to maintain the historic structure.

The council explained that the repairs can only be completed when the tide recedes far enough to allow contractors sufficient time on the beach. With winter tides proving too short for effective work, the team has now returned as conditions improve. The maintenance includes securing bolts and replacing tie bars and bull bars beneath the pier to ensure its long-term stability.

Officials have assured residents that they will continue to provide updates on the maintenance schedule, alongside plans to work with the community to safeguard the pier and other heritage sites along the Worthing coastline for future generations.
