Safety concerns raised over parking on Stoke Abbott Road in Worthing

Worthing Borough Council has issued a warning following multiple near misses involving pedestrians on Stoke Abbott Road, which it attributes to obstructive parking on both sides of the road.

The council said it had received reports of pedestrians almost being hit by cars near the Worthing Integrated Care Centre. Vehicles are currently parking both in marked bays on the northern side and illegally on the pavement along the southern side of the road, which currently lacks parking restrictions following recent resurfacing.

West Sussex County Council is set to address the issue by repainting double yellow lines and bay markings on Tuesday, 1 April 2025. Parking will be suspended on Stoke Abbott Road from 7.30am to 4pm that day. In the meantime, the borough council has urged drivers to reduce speed and advised pedestrians to cross at safe points.
