Sergeant Matt Ratana Memorial Unveiled by Police

A memorial stone will be unveiled to honour Sergeant Matt Ratana, who was shot and killed while on duty in 2020.

Sgt Ratana, originally from Goring, was shot by Louis de Zoysa, who managed to conceal an antique revolver during a police search.

The incident occurred just three months before Ratana’s planned retirement, leading to an inquest where the failure to properly search de Zoysa was criticised.

The ceremony will take place at the Croydon Custody Suite where Sgt Ratana tragically lost his life. The stone will serve as a permanent tribute to his service and sacrifice.
