Shoplifter Jailed for Spree of Thefts in Worthing

A shoplifter has been jailed for 17 thefts in Worthing, resulting in a 52-week imprisonment sentence.

Joanne Cook, 35, was sentenced at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 5 June, activating a previously suspended sentence.

Cook had been given a 26-week suspended sentence in April for six shoplifting offences, which she violated by stealing £6672.07 worth of items between 4 March and 1 June. The targeted shops included Sainsbury’s, Paydens Pharmacy, Tesco, and Co-op stores in various locations.

Cook faced additional charges for breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order, which prohibited her from entering specific retail premises in Sussex.

Sergeant Andy Bryant praised the outcome, emphasising Sussex Police’s commitment to tackling retail crime and supporting local businesses.
