Shoreham Airshow Crash Pilot's Licence Revoked by CAA
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has confirmed that Andrew Hill, the pilot involved in the 2015 Shoreham Airshow crash that killed 11 men, will have his licences formally revoked.
Hill, who was piloting a vintage aircraft that crashed onto the A27 during a manoeuvre, had his licences suspended following the incident. Despite appealing the decision, the CAA upheld the revocation after a public hearing.
The CAA stated that Hill’s actions, including his failure to take responsibility and his lack of explanation for the crash, raised concerns about his fitness to hold a pilot’s licence. A report from the CAA highlighted that Hill referred to himself in the third person when discussing the incident, which they viewed as an attempt to disassociate himself from accountability.
In 2019, Hill was found not guilty of manslaughter charges related to the crash. However, a coroner later ruled in 2022 that errors in Hill’s flying were responsible for the unlawful deaths. The CAA concluded that the gravity of these errors justified the revocation of his licences.
