Shoreham Resident Criticises Council's Pothole Repair Efforts
A resident of Shoreham-by-Sea has voiced concerns over the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the local council’s pothole repair efforts.
Speaking to the Argus newspaper, David Booker, 76, criticised the decision to send a team of four workers in two lorries to repair a small pothole on Sullington Way, describing it as a “waste of money.”
Mr. Booker observed that the council team worked on a narrow pothole for about half an hour, filling a gap approximately 50cm long. He expressed frustration that only a small section was repaired, while other significant defects remained unaddressed.
In response, a West Sussex County Council spokesperson clarified that the team had completed the required work based on identified defects. The council also noted that the team often moves between multiple sites for efficiency and that a future inspection is planned to consider broader road surface treatment for Sullington Way. The spokesperson added that in the past year, 429 potholes had been reported in Shoreham, with only one report concerning Sullington Way.
