Shoreham RNLI Responds to Multiple Paddle Boarding Incidents During Training Exercises

Shoreham RNLI reported a busy week with two significant incidents involving paddle boarders off the Sussex coast.

Both incidents occurred while the crew were either engaged in or preparing for training exercises, highlighting the importance of their readiness even during practice sessions.

The first incident took place on Monday evening when a member of the public reported a paddle boarder drifting without a paddle near Worthing Pier. Despite an extensive search by the inshore lifeboat crew, no one was found, and the incident was classified as a call with good intent. This was one of the first “shouts” conducted by the newly qualified inshore lifeboat helm, Lynzi.

A second incident occurred later in the week, involving two teenagers reported to be drifting off the coast of Hove. One of the teenagers managed to reach the shore, but the RNLI crew was unable to locate the other paddle boarder. After a thorough search, the operation was stood down.

Shoreham RNLI continues to remind the public to always call 999 and ask for the coastguard if they suspect anyone is in difficulty in the water.
