Sinkhole Causes Road Closure in Worthing
A road in Worthing will remain closed for a week following the appearance of a sinkhole
Barrington Road was shut by West Sussex County Council after the tarmac suffered extensive damage, resulting in a large hole emerging in the centre of the road between Mulberry Lane and Barrington Close.
The council set up barriers around the affected area and commenced repair work last Friday.
The sinkhole, which appeared suddenly over the weekend, prompted immediate road closures as a safety precaution. “This area of damaged concrete carriageway had already been identified for repair, but further deterioration occurred unexpectedly,” a council spokesman explained.
The council aims to have the road partially open to allow local traffic through, and minimise inconvenience until full repairs commence.
