Southern Water Apologises for Sewage Spill in Southwick Street
Southern Water has issued an apology following a sewage spill that saw waste flow into Albion Street, Southwick, due to a mechanical failure at a nearby pumping station. The spill occurred on Saturday, leaving residents distressed by the strong smell of sewage in the area.
The water company stated that a mechanical issue caused the incident, leading to an overflow of sewage that affected the local community. Southern Water has since resolved the fault and apologised for the “disruption and inconvenience” it caused. One local resident reported a lingering “stench of drains and faeces,” which remained noticeable even after leaving the area.
Southern Water confirmed that its team worked overnight to clean up the overflow. The company attributed the recurring issue to blockages caused by “unflushables” and stressed its commitment to addressing such problems to prevent future incidents.
