Southern Water Plans Major Pipe Relining in Shoreham's Victoria Road
Southern Water has announced a multimillion-pound project to reline sewer pipes in Victoria Road, Shoreham, in response to recent bursts that have caused significant disruption.
The water company is currently addressing a burst sewer pipe in the area, with tankers and pumping equipment on-site to manage wastewater flows. This equipment, which has been in place since Wednesday, has caused road closures and traffic management disruptions. Repairs are progressing, and machinery is expected to remain in place until the weekend while the road and footpath are reinstated.
Southern Water revealed that Wednesday’s burst was the second incident in a month. The company has outlined plans to implement extensive pipe relining next year as a long-term solution. The process involves inserting and hardening a polymer liner inside the existing pipes, which is less disruptive and more cost-effective than replacing the pipes entirely. While some disruption is anticipated, the company aims to minimise its impact on the community.
The relining project is expected to cost several million pounds. A Southern Water spokesperson acknowledged the inconvenience caused by recent bursts and assured residents that they would be kept informed throughout the project.
