Southern Water Struggles to Contain Sewage Smell in Southwick

Residents of Southwick are experiencing a persistent and “rancid” sewage smell plaguing the area.

The odour, which has been present since March, is linked to drainage issues managed by Southern Water. Despite ongoing efforts by the water company, the situation remains unresolved, leading to growing frustration among the town’s residents.

The issue first surfaced earlier this year when heavy rainfall caused sewage to overflow into the streets, resulting in a strong, unpleasant smell. Although Southern Water addressed the problem at the time, the odour has returned, affecting daily life for many.

Southern Water has acknowledged the problem which it says is caused by a blockage at the Albion Street pumping station.
