Southlands Hospital Expands Diagnostic Centre to Enhance Patient Care
Southlands Hospital in Shoreham is progressing with the second phase of its Community Diagnostic Centre, a move set to expand the range of medical services available at the facility.
The ongoing development is expected to be completed by the autumn and will introduce new diagnostic services including echocardiography, gynaecological, and respiratory procedures.
Since opening in October last year, the centre has provided essential diagnostic services to over 27,000 patients, significantly reducing wait times by offering quicker access to CT and MRI scans, as well as advanced X-ray facilities. The expansion aims to further alleviate pressure on larger hospitals by enabling more patients to receive timely care closer to home, reducing the risk of appointment cancellations.
The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for the centre, describes the expansion as a “game-changing” investment. The facility is part of a broader national initiative to improve access to potentially lifesaving tests, with similar centres already operational in Bognor and at the Amex Football Stadium in Falmer.
