Suspected Unexploded Bomb Discovered on Worthing Beach

A suspected unexploded bomb has been found on Worthing Beach, prompting a major emergency response involving the Royal Navy and Coastguard teams.

The device was discovered on Thursday evening (February 13), leading to an overnight operation that continued throughout Friday.

The Royal Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was deployed to assess the item, working alongside Sussex Police and Coastguard rescue teams from Littlehampton and Shoreham. The cordon was extended on Friday morning as investigations progressed, with a digger brought from Teville Gate to assist the bomb squad.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirmed that the operation was temporarily stood down on Thursday night before resuming on Friday morning. Emergency services remained on-site to manage the situation, with further assessments ongoing.
