Suspected WWII Munitions Prompt Police Cordon in Worthing

A police cordon was lifted in Worthing on Friday after suspected Second World War munitions were brought to the town’s police station.

Emergency services responded to a report of unexploded items at Worthing Police Station in Chatsworth Road around 2pm on 11 April. Sussex Police established a cordon and closed both ends of the road while nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was dispatched to the scene to examine and safely remove the suspected munitions. Authorities confirmed that the operation was handled without incident and thanked the public for their cooperation during the response.

By Friday evening, Sussex Police announced that the cordon had been lifted and roads reopened. Officers reiterated their appreciation for public patience during the incident and confirmed the items had been successfully dealt with by the EOD team.
