West Sussex Beaches to Avoid for Swimming Due to Sewage Pollution

Several beaches in Sussex have been identified as unsafe for swimming due to recent sewage discharges and poor water quality ratings, according to water pollution tracking website Sewage Data HQ.
The affected locations include Worthing Beach House, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis (Aldwick), and Felpham, where swimmers are advised to avoid the water due to potential health risks.
Worthing Beach House has been given a permanent warning due to a ‘poor’ annual classification from water regulator Ofwat. Bognor Regis (Aldwick) has eight sewer overflows along the beach, with additional discharges reported nearby. In Felpham and Littlehampton, recent storm sewage discharges have triggered warnings, with multiple overflow points affecting local bathing waters.
Sewage Data HQ, which provides real-time data on sewage discharges, warns that poor water quality can expose swimmers to harmful bacteria and viruses, potentially causing infections and illnesses such as gastroenteritis and E. coli. The website aims to help the public make informed decisions about where it is safe to swim and highlights the ongoing impact of sewage pollution on UK waterways.
