Arundel | August 10, 2024

A Sussex Police vehicle was destroyed by fire on The Causeway in Arundel on the morning of 9th August.

Officers were forced to abandon the car after noticing flames coming from it while driving near the Arundel Police Station. Despite the swift response from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, the vehicle was completely engulfed by flames before firefighters could extinguish the blaze.

The incident occurred approximately 100 metres from Arundel Police Station, leading to the temporary closure of the road as firefighters tackled the fire. The flames were primarily concentrated on the passenger side of the vehicle, with parts of the car melting onto the road. The fire service used breathing apparatus, a hose, and a thermal imaging camera during the operation.

A Sussex Police spokesperson confirmed that no injuries were reported and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. There is currently no evidence to suggest that the fire was started deliberately.
